Cognizant - Vendor Profile - Worldwide

Cognizant is repositioning for growth after a multi-year turnaround. The company is back to organic growth, mostly thanks to financial services (thanks to large deals and discretionary spending), healthcare (including a return to growth in TriZetto), and life science.

M&As continue to play an important role in Cognizant’s growth, specifically the large and controversial acquisition of a defense and aeronautics ER&D vendor, Belcan. Belcan brings an important client, Boeing, but is largely onshore, with limited potential for relocation to India. Outside of ER&D, Cognizant continues to shift its service portfolio, with a major push into AI and cloud.

This Vendor Profile assesses strategy, financial performance, key deals, and market positioning across industries and regions.

Key findings

  • Strengths in financial services and health sciences; the US remains the core market.
  • Strategic priorities: AI/GenAI, data & cloud (AWS, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake), ER&D (Belcan), and platform services (ServiceNow, SAP, Salesforce).
  • M&As and large deals drive scale: notable acquisitions include Belcan, 3Cloud, and ServiceNow/Workday-focused buys.
  • Risks: margin pressure from onshore ER&D mix and need to sharpen AI differentiation.

Notable metrics & activities

  • Major deals in banking, manufacturing, the public sector, and BPO; TriZetto remains a key asset.
  • Delivery expansion: new centers in India and Europe; investment in AI labs and training.
