AWS (Amazon Web Services) - Vendor Profile - US

This Vendor Profile provides PAC’s concise analysis of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the US market, covering company background, market positioning, and PAC’s analysis. The report assesses the revenue mix, sector exposure, and strategic priorities.

Strategic positioning in the US

Amazon Web Services (AWS) was fundamental to the creation of the cloud market and remains by far the largest cloud provider, with the longest history and the biggest ecosystem. It combines scale, innovation, and a vast partner ecosystem to act as the backbone for the as-a-service and AI industry worldwide.

AWS continues to invest heavily in next‑generation infrastructure, including up to $50 billion for US government AI and supercomputing capabilities, and billions more across multiple US states for new data centers.

The backbone of the global as-a-service and AI industry

AWS is an important hosting platform but often also a co-innovation and go-to-market partner for many other platform vendors, whether it is analytics, AI, software, or SaaS providers.

In addition, AWS positions itself as an enterprise AI backbone, investing heavily in AI, HPC, chips, data centers, and strategic partnerships (OpenAI, Anthropic, NVIDIA, Cerebras), while offering modular, governed, cost-aware cloud and edge solutions.

PAC’s opinion

Despite strong momentum, AWS faces headwinds: sovereignty concerns, geopolitical risks, cloud outages, and intensifying competition. Nevertheless, PAC considers AWS well‑positioned to sustain growth driven by AI and cloud pull‑through; however, regulatory, geopolitical, and execution risks will determine global momentum.
