PAC has evaluated the providers of open digital platforms for the industrial world in Europe in nine segments dedicated to specific use cases:
Open digital platforms for industrial cloud applications
Open digital platforms for industrial edge management
Open digital platforms for industrial hybrid/multi-cloud application management
Open digital platforms for open-source-based industrial IoT
Open digital platforms for connected workers (AR)
Open digital platforms for manufacturing as a service (MaaS)
Open digital platforms for smart logistics services
Open digital platforms for the industrial metaverse
Open digital platforms for sustainability
Two trends are the main drivers for digital platforms in manufacturing:
First, the convergence of IT and OT, which is in full progress in the manufacturing industry. IT/OT integration always involves handling data and/or applications between edge and cloud computing resources. Therefore, digital platforms are the basis for IT/OT integration projects. As there is no one-size-fits-all solution, PAC distinguishes between different concepts for different use cases.
Second, manufacturing companies need ways to scale their digital transformation initiatives with maximum efficiency. While digital platforms are a key enabler here, this is not enough to be successful. Manufacturers also need a clear strategy and a dedicated transformation team to scale new use cases across the company. Key success factors in this context are workforce engagement and change management.
The focus of the 2023 RADAR analyses is on differentiating between different platform concepts, but also evaluating emerging topics.
The PAC RADAR is an effective tool for the holistic evaluation and visual positioning of leading software and ICT service providers on local markets.
With the help of predefined criteria, PAC evaluates and compares providers’ strategies, development, and market position in addition to performance and competencies within specific market segments.
