Expert View: Hybrid Cloud Platform Engineering with OpenShift, Terraform, Vault, and Ansible

The central hybrid-cloud challenge is shifting from workload migration to platform fragmentation. Enterprises need a consistent way to provision infrastructure, deploy applications, enforce controls, and operate services across heterogeneous environments. Platform engineering addresses this challenge through governed self-service, reusable platform capabilities, policy-based guardrails, and automated operations. One possible technology combination includes Red Hat OpenShift and Developer Hub, HashiCorp Terraform and Vault, and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. Red Hat and HashiCorp are IBM subsidiaries. Comparable platform architectures can also be built with alternatives such as SUSE Rancher Prime and VMware Tanzu, Pulumi, cloud-native infrastructure-as-code services, CyberArk or cloud-native secrets managers, and other infrastructure automation platforms.
