Expert View: How Regulations On Generative AI Are Shaping Up Around The World

Over the past few years, governments and international bodies (UN, OECD) worldwide have developed guidelines and regulations on using artificial intelligence (AI). The level of maturity of these efforts and the chosen approach vary from country to country, with the upcoming EU AI Act considered as the first law on AI passed by a major regulator anywhere. However, the emergence of generative AI and its rapid adoption have led to new challenges. While promising to transform business with its disruptive applications, the unique nature of this technology may also involve unprecedented risks. To deal with the latter, many leading figures, such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, have urged for swift regulatory action to safeguard society. How are different countries addressing this issue?
