Banking - Market View - Austria

Austria’s banking sector entered 2026 financially strong, but weak economic growth is increasing the pressure on efficiency and profitability. Technology investment remains resilient, with banking IT expenditure expected to reach around €2.62 billion in 2026, up 4.2% year on year.

Austrian banks are pragmatic modernizers with a business-first technology agenda.

  • AI and automation are moving into operational use, with a strong focus on productivity, process efficiency, and better use of data.
  • Cloud, data, and legacy modernization remain core investment priorities, increasingly based on hybrid and standardized technology architectures.
  • Cybersecurity and resilience are gaining strategic importance, driven by regulation, digital customer expectations, and new payment infrastructure.

The strongest IT market opportunities are in AI enablement, cloud and data modernization, legacy transformation, and cyber resilience. Providers that combine banking expertise with strong integration capabilities are best positioned.
