TCS to add 1,500 employees in the UK

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has unveiled plans to recruit 1,500 employees in the UK over the next year.

The announcement comes as the UK’s Department for International Trade discusses a new commercial trade agreement with India.

The move comes at a time when TCS is pushing Accenture to become the UK’s largest IT services provider. PAC will publish our latest rankings in the coming months but TCS’ recent progress puts it in a strong position to take the top spot for the first time.

PAC recently caught up with Amit Kapur, the CEO of TCS’ business in the UK and Ireland, who talked us through the company’s growing momentum in the region, which delivered 4.5% sequential growth in the last fiscal quarter.

Recent highlights have included a contract with mobile operator Three UK to support the rollout of its 5G infrastructure, and expansions of existing deals with retail groups Morrisons and Kingfisher. Kapur told us that recent growth has been spread out across several sectors, with financial services, retail and technology the most dynamic.

TCS already employs some 19,000 employees in the UK and Ireland, including around 2,000 that it has onboarded entirely virtually through contract wins in the last 12 months.
