PAC Predictions 2021: Employee-centric new work style and digital workplace

The digital workplace concept is a corporate approach that combines the use of digital technology with the implementation of new, employee-centric policies and collaborative, digital workplaces to enable more flexible working practices.

Businesses were forced to completely transform their ways of working within a matter of days in order to respond to constraints imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. For some organizations, the switch has been nothing short of miraculous. However, for the majority of them, a comprehensive move to remote or homeworking has meant a struggle to handle an extremely fast increase in remote connections and equip their workforce with suitable technology within a short period of time. Others have seen their staff struggle to get to grips with new unified communication and collaboration tools without adequate deployment and/or sufficient training, while the shift to remote working has placed huge pressure on the network, security, and cloud layers.

Businesses also need to review their policies and IT in place to ensure that employees can use the tools and new ways of working required to be fully productive from anywhere, at any time, and on any device, personal or not, to adapt to this ‘new normal’.

This will increasingly be supported by a more intelligent approach to data management and security in order to be able to protect the company and its assets against growing cyber crime and, more generally, to limit the risks associated with the increasing dependence of companies on digital technologies, which leads to a steep rise in exposure points in information systems that are increasingly open and shared with an ecosystem of suppliers, customers, and third-party services.

Even post-Covid-19, these trends will persist; therefore the market for digital workplace solutions will gain a lot of traction over the next 3+ months.
