Carrefour Invests in Cloud and Digital Resilience

Carrefour Belgium has partnered with Google Cloud to drive digital transformation across its supermarket chain. The partnership will see Carrefour Belgium migrate business-critical SAP systems and supply chain data to the Google Cloud.

The company’s data centers will be migrated to Google BigQuery, enhancing storage and analytics. The move also future-proofs Carrefour for greater flexibility and innovation around topics, including mobile, e-commerce, data analytics, and machine learning.

Carrefour Belgium will leverage BigQuery’s capabilities to achieve high visibility into supply chain data, elevating efficiency and enabling hyper-personalized consumer experiences, e.g., targeted offers.

The retailer is also switching to SAP S/4HANA on Google Cloud while also bringing other parallel workloads into Google Cloud for greater security, low-latency access to applications, and improved data analytics.

This is the second major digitalization effort by Carrefour Belgium in the space of a month. In June 2021, Carrefour contracted NTT to deploy enterprise mobility solution VMware Workspace One. The solution, which leverages per-app VPN and dual-firewall DMZ architecture, will simplify management, reduce latency, and enhance security for 4.000 employee-owned mobile devices. VMware’s solution integrates access control, application management, and cross-platform endpoint management into a single platform. NTT was also responsible for the installation, configuration, and deployment of the devices.

In Belgium, PAC sees more retailers ramping up their digital efforts to accommodate changing employee and customer needs. Earlier this year, groceries supplier Louis Delhaize started using Google Workspace to increase operational efficiency and deliver goods faster from warehouse to shop display. Another example is Belgium retailer Colruyt, which recently contracted Tealium, a provider of customer data orchestration solutions and enterprise tag management, in conjunction with data analytics consultancy, Multiminds, to deploy Tealium IQ tag management. The solution, which replaced, Google Analytics, enabled Colruyt to align data from different brands and touchpoints to get a better view of the customer, thus improving and optimizing the customer experience.
