Predictive maintenance has been hyped as a key use case in the industrial IoT context for many years, while AI-based visual inspection used to be more of an afterthought. The latter uses high-definition cameras to capture visual data which is then processed and analyzed by AI algorithms. Clear value, simple implementation, fast adoption, and continued heavy investments underscore that digital quality control based on visual AI technology has become a “killer application” for industrial IoT.
