Infosys plans to open a new hub in Calgary and double Canadian workforce
Over the past few years, Infosys has focused on building out strong local delivery capabilities within its sprawling global business - tapping into enterprise demand for business-critical services to be delivered in-country or within particular geographic regions. This approach has seen notable investment in Europe; the firm recently announced the opening of a Digital Innovation Centre in Dusseldorf, Germany, and in 2019 set up a Cyber Defence Centre in Bucharest, Romania. Over the last two years alone, the firm has opened numerous centres across Europe, including in the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and Romania.
Now, the firm plans to increase boots on the ground in North America. This week, Infosys announced plans for significant investment in its Canadian business, including a commitment to open a new hub in Calgary where the firm will develop a talent pool of 500 professionals. Overall, the move will see Infosys grow its workforce in Canada up to 4,000 employees by 2023.
The firm already has 2000 highly skilled professionals in the region, spread across Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Montreal.
The investment in the Calgary hub will enable Infosys to deliver nearshore and onshore services across Western Canada, the Pacific North West, and the Central United States, targeting various industries, including natural resources, energy, media, retail, and communications. And scaling services it currently delivers to clients in the region. The move comes at a time when enterprises are increasingly focused on finding partners that can offer a blend of local understanding, domain expertise, and strong technical skills.
Indeed, the North American region is one of the most competitive markets for IT Services, making Infosys' investment in the area an important differentiator. Particularly as enterprises shift their priorities as they emerge from the unique economic environment presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest data from teknowlogy's CxO survey, in the US alone 87% of enterprises are looking to improve the digital experience of their customers, with 90% investing in digital transformation to enhance products and services. Many of these enterprises will be looking for support from IT Services firms - and with growing delivery capability on the continent, Infosys is in a strong position to help them.
