Expert View: The Role of the Chief Security Officer

The role of CISOs has changed dramatically over the last 3 years. In many businesses, they are already recognized as CSOs (Chief Security Officers) and as part of the C-suite, i.e. on the same hierarchy level as the CIO, CFO, CMO, COO, and the Chief Sales Officer. By that token, CSOs negotiate their own budgets based on distinct security needs, rather than the budgetary constraints of the broader IT organization. In addition, the role has changed from a technical to a business role – the task of the CSO is not only to secure the business, but also to act as a strategic enabler, bringing a vital security-centered focus to the business.
