In July 2021, the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted a draft resolution titled “Open Source Technologies for Sustainable Development”. Open source can play a key role in driving sustainability by enabling collaboration, innovation, and transparency in the pursuit of low-carbon solutions. The concept of digital commons is emerging, promising more sustainable and inclusive digital technologies.
