Expert View: Limits to Off-Premises Data Center Growth in Some Areas Require New Concepts

There are good reasons why data center clusters have grown over the past few decades. Not everywhere has brilliant Internet access and stable power supply, and shorter distances between data centers reduce response and round-trip times. On the other hand, the larger these data center clusters become, the higher the associated risks are, such as power supply issues (e.g. Dublin), and the more resistance they meet with from the community (e.g. Frankfurt, Amsterdam). Growth has to be managed in a different way to meet growing data center needs in an increasingly digitalized world.
