Expert View: Financial Institutions: Tackling Environmental Sustainability Through IT

The starting point for sustainability-related projects at financial institutions (FIs) can be IT infrastructures or application landscapes (environmentally sustainable IT), but also comprehensive business transformation strategies. Other approaches to increasing ecological sustainability include the identification, tracking, evaluation, and reporting of environmental metrics (such as the Green Asset Ratio); embedding sustainability metrics in core business processes (such as risk assessment and risk calculation); and creating new products and offerings around sustainability (e.g., ESG-linked funds, loans, or insurance policies).
